• Josh Pierson lines up with the chance to become the youngest ever WEC champion
• #23 sits second in the championship, with deciding points up for grabs on Saturday
• Albuquerque and Hanson draw on previous success in #22 to finish season on a high
United Autosports go to the final round of the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship with one thing on their mind – victory.
With a history of pole position success at the Sakhir circuit, the United team are confident they can bring the fight in the final round – aiming not only for a race win, but a shot at the championship title too.
Josh Pierson, Olly Jarvis and Alex Lynn of the #23 car are currently on 86 points, with 28 points separating them from the championship leaders and 38 points up for grabs in the final race of the season. And, depending on what action unfolds during the 8 hour race, there’s the potential for Josh to become the youngest ever WEC champion in the 10-year history of the series.
The 8 Hours of Bahrain will commence at 14:00 (AST), with four hours of racing under the Bahraini sun before the championship title is decided under the iconic track floodlights.
Filipe Albuquerque:
“Bahrain is soon, let’s try to finish on a high. It’s been a cruel year, knowing we have the pace to win the races but not being able to. Last year being on pole has solidified our confidence in being able to execute a race win this year, we have learnt from last year and myself, Will and Phil are motivated to end the season fighting for the win.”
Phil Hanson:
“A track where we’ve been able to achieve pole position multiple times, our only aim is to finish the 2022 season with a commanding victory.”
Will Owen:
“This place is pretty special to me as I did the rookie test here and first met Richard, so it’s fun to go back to the place where it all began with United. It’s a really cool track, a circuit that I enjoy and we’re ready to push and aim for the win, that’s all that is on our mind ahead of this weekend.”
Alex Lynn:
“I’m really excited to be heading to Bahrain, it’s a circuit I really love and racing under the lights is always amazing. Josh and Oliver have been amazing team mates to be with this year, I’ve had an amazing time being in the 23 car this year. But I’m determined to finish this right.”
Olly Jarvis:
“I can’t believe it’s already the final race of the season. Bahrain is a fantastic circuit and always produces good racing. We head there with a small chance of winning the championship but our focus is simply on finishing the season how we started it – on the top step of the podium!”
Josh Pierson:
“I’m super excited to get on track in Bahrain. I’m familiar with this track because it’s one I’ve grown up watching in formula 1, and I’ve always wanted to drive it for myself. I’m confident that with Alex and Olly, I’ll have great references to elevate my learning, and the team will give us a strong car to go and fight for the championship.”
Richard Dean
“We started the WEC season back in March at Sebring with a win, it is our aim to finish the season with the same result. To still be in with a chance to win the WEC title is great for the team and especially credible for Josh in his record-breaking season. We have a good history here in qualifying with three pole positions, now it’s time to win the race here in Bahrain.”
Fran Grenier, United Autosports
