STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The corner of Put up Avenue, Cary Avenue, and Clove Highway is in close proximity to the line that separates West Brighton and Port Richmond. Escalating up in this community, I keep in mind stopping for gas on this corner there were generally automotive happenings here—cars for sale or cars receiving fixed. The Gulf sign is on the opposite corner now, and the business enterprise is known as FJM Auto Restore shop. Then on the northwest corner is Dee’s Automobile System, and reverse that to the east is Mad Joe’s car profits and services. This corner the place the a few streets meet up with hasn’t altered considerably at all.

The only corner with a sizeable developing is the residence of the corner deli or sweet store, then referred to as Richie’s Luncheonette, now named LowPrice Deli & Grocery, usually a well-known cease for kids heading to and from university.

On the avenue just right before PS 19, The Curtis School was as soon as an indoor pool referred to as Staten Island Aquatics Middle, constructed in 1988 behind it was the Columbian Lyceum, a catering hall with a bowling alley in the basement. Staten Island Aquatics closed in 2002. Now both equally areas are rows of attached residences.

In accordance to a streeteasy map, PS 19, 780 Put up Avenue, was built in 1931 and has a few tales and 1 unit. It is still Community College 19, my alma mater, and a hub for education and learning.
